Intergrating Avira Into IDM

I've been using Avira AntiVir Personal since the last 5 years, and I download a heck a lot of stuff from the Internet. I like speedy downloads, so I use IDM. Now here is the problem: downloaded stuff may contain viruses, and like most people we're just too lazy to scan each and every file immediately after the download.

Fret not, there is the way of automation.

Open IDM, and select Options. Then go to the Downloads tab.

Like the image above, look for Virus checking, then click browse for Virus scanner program. Select avscan.exe from the Avira program folder. In the Command line parameters, type  '/PATH="%f" /GUIMODE=3' minus the single quote (there is a space between  "%f" and /GUIMODE). Click OK, and you're done.

UPDATE: Whoops, a little mistake. Got that fixed now.

Now Avira will automatically scan your files right after you download in IDM. So your files are now secure.

The best thing is, since Avira 9 was released, they added the "invisible" mode, which makes the scanning in the background without any interference, noted by /GUIMODE=3 (1 is the full GUI, 2 is the minimized and simplified GUI). There is a small issue where Avira will always scan the boot sector and running processes first, resulting in a slightly longer scan time, unless you set Avira not to scan them for all scans. But as safety comes first, this is a very small issue indeed.

Oh yeah, you may also try these settings on other programs, such as Live Messenger. Anyways, I bid you good luck.
